The sun is shining as the scent of fruit tree blossoms confronts me in Dublin around mid-February.
During the first hours of the day, I got up early and made myself a good breakfast. Because I knew I was going to need it for a long day of sightseeing. For the rest of the day and tomorrow, I would spend my time in Dublin.
Here are three good reasons why you should visit Dublin. They are about the places I enjoyed most in the capital city of Ireland.
The best part about Dublin, without doubt, are the pubs.
Why? It’s probably because of these three reasons:
- They bring people together. And, especially on a rainy day, you can enjoy a drink, have a good meal and in most pubs, you can also enjoy Irish traditional music.
- There are so many of them and they all have their own history. You could spend a weekend going from one pub to another and still not get bored of them.
- If you like beer or whiskey, the pubs in Dublin will satisfy you. Drinking a pint of Guinness in a pub in Dublin should be on your bucket list when visiting Ireland.
The Holy Trinity College library
A must visit in Dublin is the Holy Trinity College library.
Famous as the library is, it probably also is one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. As you step inside the library, you’ll get taken back to the 18th century. Time seems to have stopped in this place and all the 200.000 books are still in its shelves being protected from the sunlight by cloth-covered windows.
This one is for the nature lovers.
Tucked away a bit up north from Dublin, there is a botanic garden that’s perfect for a quick escape from the vibrant city center.
You’ll find a lot of different kind of plant species in the botanic garden, each of them grouped outside or inside glasshouses.
It’s easy to get there by public transport and from the city center, you’ll be in the botanic garden within 30 minutes. There is no entrance fee and the garden is open every day from 9 or 10 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m.
