As Sri Lanka’s second largest city, Kandy feels like a tiny town in its heart. Accompanied by a majestic lake and holy temple that holds a tooth of Buddha himself as a relic. The city is famous for many cultural events like the Kandy Esala Perahera and monthly elephant parade and the traditional fire dances. Hidden in between gentle hills with tropical forests that seem to cover the city borders as a tapestry of green, Kandy is a place where any traveler can find rest. Whenever it rains or when the sun shines bright, this historical city offers unique views. The old city center houses a few of old colonials buildings and there are quite a lot of good restaurants if you know where to look. Kandy is a must visit for any traveler in Sri Lanka.
Kandy can easily be reached from Colombo by train. Because of its central location, many buses leave from and to Kandy, so it won’t be hard to find transport to this city in Sri Lanka.
